⬇️ In fact, in this pic, the frame is flexed so much, with my access cab it was actually hard to open and close the door in this position. I couldn’t find a good pick of the flex with my camper shell on, but if you look close at the pic below, the bed is flexed an inch or more from the cab. When rock crawling or even driving down super washboard roads or big whoops. They are dead level and it would be temping to mount a tent across both, but…īecause Tacoma frames are open C channels in the rear, the frame flexes when you off road. which you should absolutely not do if you drive on dirt roads at all.Ĭurrently I have Front Runner roof rack on the cab and camper shell both. OP was talking about not mounting the tent to the bed rack (or same thing with a camper shell) and the cab of the truck at the same time. I’ve since sold the tent -multiple reasons why we did that I won’t go into here.Ĭlick to expand.I know this is an oldish thread but since I’m in the process of mounting a roof top tent hopefully tomorrow I will chime in…. I’m happy to answer any follow up questions. Once we parked, I would switch out the “driving pads” with “sleeping” pads - which were dense foam pads the supported the front of the tent while someone was above them sleeping. This prevented the tent from bouncing during driving but allowed the bed and cab to flex. So I added a single anti-vibration pads with weather foam pads on top attached via weather-proof velco to each contact point on the cab rack bars. I was worried my Skycamp would start to bend without the front support while someone was on that side of the tent. This raised the RTT up about an inch and cleared the back two bars on the cab rack. I put these under each contact point - 12 points, 6 cross bars. I used pieces of hard weather-proof plastic sandwiched between weather-proof anti-vibration rubber pads used for commercial air compressors. Between the rack and the rails on my RTT, I have a sandwich pad setup. The snug top has Yakima tracks which I’m mounted the Prinsu rack directly to. I have both the Prince a rack on the topper and on the cab. I have a short bed with a snug top rebel on it.
